Background
Religious beliefs of various people are an important part of world culture. They aid in comprehending the nature and purpose of human existence. Christians have the Holy Scripture, or the Bible, where the following well-known words come from:
“…God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.” (Genesis 1, 3)*
And the story unfolds:
“Then God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years; and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so. Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also. God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth, and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. (Genesis 1, 14-18)
Key concept
God is both the mastermind and the workforce. In His heavenly studio, He does not only ‘create’ or ‘invent’ but also ‘assemble’ and ‘test.’ And this is a way of putting ideas into practice that we are all aware of: starting from the concept – “let there be light” – and making it to the completion of the project – “let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth.” Then “God saw that it was good” – He has accomplished His part. The lights on the earth are, of course, the Sun and the Moon.
