Once upon a time, there lived a plain looking peacock. He was less attractive than other birds. Only with his huge tail feathers spread like the branches of a tree did he appear impressive to himself and - so he thought - to others.
One day, he was standing just like this - with his train arched into a fan - when a swarm of eyes came flying by, about a hundred of them - hard to tel exactly since they were moving so fast. "Ha!" they thought, noticing the tree from a distance. "Here's a good place to take a breather!" And so they stopped, nestled into the soft tail feathers of the peacock. They settled for good and turned the peacock into the most beautiful bird of all.
