The island depicted by the artist is not simply an island of treasures, but an island-treasure with naturally born jewel flowers and plants and silver mountains. On the horizon glimmers the solar symbol of this artificial world, a gold coin reflected in the wins of a metallic butterfly.
The medieval rulers of the East were known to decorate their palaces with artificial nature. Thus, one of them arranged in his palace the artificial lake of mercury so that at night “the radiance of moon would be combined with the sparkling of mercury” Another ruler built on a small islet amidst the pond,, a tree whose branches were made for silver and gold.
