A “contemplative streetlamp” is one of the favorite subjects of the artist who was born in the Russian capital and has lived in large American cities.

Narcissus was a very handsome man. One day a nymph fell deeply in love with him and he told her to leave him alone. Then he saw his own reflection in the water and fell in love with it, as if it were somebody else. Eventually, realizing that his love could not be reciprocated, he melted away from the fire of passion burning inside him ending his will to live and turned into a beautiful gold and white flower named Narcisse.

Reflection and self-analysis are the properties of an intellectual. They're tied up with a sense of loss when the moment is over and life advances with a stone-hard imminence. Maybe, as with Hamlet, there comes a time to act?
