Here, however, the spiral rotation of the shell sets the whole painting in motion. Settlements appear on the spurs of the mountains, and evening lights twinkle. The appearance of illumination speaks of the emergence of rational existence (i.e., the light of reason). The snail’s upper tentacles clearly indicate its direction of movement. This symbol is also connected with the image of the crescent moon.
