• This image reminds us of earth’s geological past, when the planet was still in a state of incessant changes and cataclysms.
• As old continents disintegrated, new ones were forming. The snail is well known for being slow. There is a popular expression, used, among other things, to describe the way in which officials carry out reforms: the snail is on its way – and one day it will arrive. Here, however, the spiral rotation of the shell sets the whole painting in motion. Settlements appear on the spurs of the mountains, and evening lights twinkle. The appearance of illumination speaks of the emergence of rational existence (i.e., the light of reason). The snail’s upper tentacles clearly indicate its direction of movement. This symbol is also connected with the image of the crescent moon.
