According to Galileo's biography, written by his student Vincenzo Viviani in 1589, Galileo conducted an experiment, dropping two balls of different masses with a famous falling tower in Pisa to demonstrate that the time of fall is not dependent on the mass of the body with this experiment. He disproved Aristotle's theory, who claimed that the rate of fall was proportionate to the mass of the body.
