The painting contains an allusion to (hints at) the classical paintings telling the story of the Goddess of love Aphrodite being born from the sea. One such famous painting The Birth of Venus (1485) belongs to the Italian master Sandro Boticelli.
We see the setting changed, as an egg replaces Aphrodite’s shell where the Tree-Nymph is born. The sea element of the classical interpretation becomes the element of forest, as indicated by the straw nest holding the egg.
