• In ancient Egypt, jugs were used to hold oil and water and regarded as an attribute of Isis and Osiris.

• The material that formed a jug and the jug’s shape were extremely important.

• In the hot Egyptian climate, the jug’s sponge-like material helped keep its contents cool.

• Moderation would be depicted as pouring water from one pitcher into another. Mr. Jug has a life and is always pleased with himself. Indeed, he has good reason to be proud – he wears a smart red shirt with a nice lace-up. Wicked tongues would call him a fatso, but he counters that good naturedly, enjoying his drink of milk: “I’m well stocked for when supply fails!” Besides, if too full and panting, he can promptly loosen the strings to accommodate excess.
